June 1, 2017 | Globoforce Press Release
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. & DUBLIN & PHOENIX, Ariz. – June 1, 2017 – GloboforceOpens in a new tab®, a leading provider of social recognition solutions, today unveiled new innovations for the HR industry, designed to help humanize the workplace and crowdsource performance feedback and recognition. Conversations and Life Events were announced at Globoforce’s 2017 WorkHumanOpens in a new tab Conference, taking place May 30-June 1 at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix, Ariz. Globoforce Conversations is designed to replace the traditional performance review process that is antiquated, infrequent, and typically based on the opinion of just one manager. Conversations crowdsources and democratizes the feedback process by enabling in-the-moment recognition and feedback from everyone in the organization so employees can get a comprehensive view of their performance from the people they work with. It also fosters regular check-ins between leaders, employees and their teams. Utilizing feedback from cross-functional teams as well as peers, managers can serve as coaches to encourage more effective communication that stimulates year-round learning and growth. Research shows that organizations that foster an environment of ongoing feedback and check-ins can be more successful. According to the 2017 Deloitte Global Human Capital TrendsOpens in a new tab report, 83 percent of companies that redesigned their performance management process reported an increase in the quality of conversations between employees and managers. The report also found that 90 percent of companies that have redesigned performance management practices saw direct improvements in engagement. “The performance management market is undergoing a complete re-engineering as companies look for new strategies to replace the once-a-year performance review,” said Josh Bersin, principal and founder, Bersin by Deloitte, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “Designs that focus on things like continuous conversations, positive feedback, and recognition are now proven effective and are becoming the new standard.” “Today’s companies operate as a network of teams, and those teams need to be cohesive and connected,” said Grant Beckett, vice president of product strategy at Globoforce. “Performance management is no longer about one employee and one manager, but about creating a companywide dialogue that brings out the best in each employee. Conversations revamp archaic performance management practices by changing the feedback continuum and leveraging recognition as the key ingredient toward stronger social connections, increased trust, and ultimately, improved performance. Organizations can build a culture of learning and growth by enabling the spectrum of feedback from constructive to celebratory.” In addition to revamping the performance feedback process, Globoforce also introduced Life Events, designed to increase the quality of work relationships. Life Events encourages employees to bring their whole selves to work and crowdsources all employees to celebrate the greatest moments in employees’ lives, including marriage, new babies, promotions and retirement. Life Events unlocks shared positivity during important employee milestones, creating a community experience around employees’ life events that strengthens the connection between colleagues. “The lines between an employee’s life and work are constantly blending—more so now than ever before,” said Eric Mosley, CEO of Globoforce. “Our goal through Conversations and Life Events is to encourage more human-focused interactions that help create a community of growth, collaboration, and inclusion. If we work in environments where we can trust our managers to have our best interest top of mind and feel strong connections with our colleagues, we are more likely to actively participate in our success, our colleagues and the companies we work for.” Both Conversations and Life Events are expected to be available later in the year.
